Orlando Magic forward Dwight Howard has informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he would not sign an extension with the team if they traded for him because of what Kobe Bryant told him, according to Jarrod Rudolph of RealGM.
Howard was turned off to the Lakers based on what Bryant told him: that Howard would be “his Tyson Chandler” and that the Lakers would still be his team, according to Rudolph. Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld.com backed up the report, tweeting that “Kobe messed it up.”
According to Rudolph, Howard said that there was “no way” he would leave Orlando and be a third option. Howard would be a third option on a star-heavy team but did not like how Bryant explained the situation, according to Rudolph.
Earlier this week, Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith said that there would be no major trade in the near future. Howard has been the subject of trade rumors since Howard said he planned to become a free-agent after this season.
