IS CALDWELL REALLY CALLING THE SHOTS IN INDY

Shutdown Corner - NFL

Released corner: Jim Caldwell doesn’t make decisions in IndyThe Indianapolis Colts have released cornerback Justin Tryon(notes), which was probably the humane thing to do since they weren't playing him. The release caps a weird few weeks for Tryon in Indy.
About a week ago, Phil Wilson of the Indy Star asked Colts defensive coordinator Larry Coyer why Tryon wasn't playing. Coyer's answer was odd and evasive, basically pointing a finger at head coach Jim Caldwell.
"You know what, any of that stuff you have to ask Jim (Caldwell), to be honest with you," Coyer said. "I like [Tryon] a lot. He's competitive. But where that is, it's with our head coach."
Pretty much everyone agrees that Tryon was better than Jacob Lacey(notes), the man who got the snaps in Tryon's absence. I read the quote from Coyer as meaning, "I like Tryon, and I'd like to play him, but for some reason, Jim Caldwell doesn't want me to, so I can't." According to Tryon, though, it wasn't up to Caldwell, either. Here's what he tweeted.
@JTTRYON20: I thank the Colts die hard fans for the love they're showing me! I'M A STARTER yes.. Caldwell wanted to start me but it wasn't up to him!
@JTTRYON20: Now done with that!! I'm def ready for the next chapter in this wonderful story!! IM BLESSED!! lay off of Caldwell he's a great coach! Peace
And for whatever it's worth, Colts owner Jim Irsay quickly hopped on Twitter to challenge what Tryon said about Caldwell.
@JimIrsay: Bill Polian is 1 day, going 2 The Hall of Fame,he knows what he's doing, and Coach Caldwell makes final call on who plays n who doesn't,period
Who's telling the truth, I don't know. I do think it's odd that in the same tweet where he says that Caldwell makes the decisions, Irsay also feels it necessary to point out that Colts vice chairman Bill Polian, if he wanted to, would be qualified to make such a decision. Tryon has an agenda, too. Not that I think he's lying, but of course his point of view would be that he's a really good player and that it was something in the organization holding him back.

Since the day Caldwell took the head coaching job, there's always been the perception he's not a man of great sway in the Colts organization. Irsay's a strong character. Polian's a strong character. Peyton Manning's(notes) a strong character. Tony Dungy said on Sunday that Manning would be calling a lot of the plays in their Sunday night game against Pittsburgh.
Meanwhile, Caldwell goes about his business while saying almost nothing. Right or wrong, the perception's been that he's the Colts head coach just because the Colts had to hire someone to be the head coach.
Tryon's tweets give some credence to the belief that Caldwell's just a sideline decoration.

THE NFL LOWDOWN WEEK#3 2011

I am going to start of this week's edition of the LOWDOWN with my feelings on Dononvan McNabb and how the final chapters of his career unfortunately are going to help determine whether or not he is going to the HOF. If you take a look at his play over the past year and half he has vindicated Andy Reid, the Shanahans and all of his critics who thought he was overrated to begin with. My problem with McNabb is that he is going out like a Bitch and not even bothering to put up a fight. When he was traded to the Deadskins I just knew he was going to make the Eagles pay for trading him in the division and show them what he was really made of. Well his play in Washington was marked with criticism of his knowledge of the playbook, his conditioning, his leadership skills and his overall accuracy. In other words he was being called an old dumbass overweight version of Jemarcus Russell. The Deadskins went so far as to embarrass him by taking him out of a game in the last two minutes, because they said journeyman Rex Grossman had better command of the two minute drill than him. What the fuck???? Brett Favre would have told the Shanahans to fuck themselves, better yet he would have went back out on the field, told Grossman to go have a fucking seat and he would have called whatever the hell he wanted in those last two minutes and would have been praised as a leader for doing it. Instead McNabb put on his hat stood on the sideline and acted like someone who had just been given some bad news. He looked hurt, but never said a word. This was followed by him ultimately being benched then traded for a neckbone sandwich, two slim jims, a slice of bean pie and a 2056 7th round draft pick. Meaning they paid the Vikings to take his ass. Still I heard nothing from Donovan. Then to top it all off he goes out in week #1 and slings that pill for an incredible 39 yards. Somewhere Kyle Bowler is sitting back and saying goddamn I was never that bad and all I ever did was fumble snaps, run around like a buffoon from imaginary pass rushes and throw jump balls to Todd Heap every 3rd down. Donovan has set QB play back 50 years with his pathetic play and I am thoroughly embarrassed to have ever defended his ass to people who were critical of his abilities. I have never seen a man lack so much heart and passion before in my life. On the field and in interviews he shows about as much emotion as Elden Campbell and it is only a matter of time before Ponder replaces his ass as the starting QB. Right now I bet you Brett Favre, Jeff George, or even Elvis Grbac could come in without notice and complete the passes that McNabb is incapable of right now. How fucking hard is it to throw off of play action and stick the ball not pitch mutherfucker but stick the ball in the belly of Adrian Peterson and watch him run. When your name is Donovan Mcnabb and all you are being asked to do is manage a game ala the godfather Trent Dilfer and you can't even do that well you know what in the famous words of Marty Marr YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO HOME BUT YOU HAVE TO GET THE FUCK UP OUT OF HERE. Now on to the MUTHERFUCKING LOWDOWN!!!
  • THE HIGH FIVE:
  • 1) PACKERS 3-0  In the famous words of Ric Flair they are the best thing going today.
  • 2) SAINTS     2-1  They can score with anyone, but are a step down from GB.
  • 3) RAVENS   2-1  It is all about Flacco.
  • 4) PITT           2-1  Winning ugly is all they do.
  • 5) PATS          2-1  Brady is still the best and don't count on him throwing 4 ints again.
  • UPON FURTHER REVIEW:
  • Michael Vick does have a legit reason to be upset about not getting the calls that his counterparts in Brady and Manning receive. This is not a black/white issue, but it is turning into one. Yes Vick uses his legs to either run for yardage or extend plays but why is he being labeled as being different from other QB'S. A QB is a QB. There is no separate rules for them based off of their style. Vick is being called a running QB and Brady is called a pocket passer. So let me get this straight pass interference is called differently on Wes Welker a possession receiver than it is on Andre Johnson a physical down field threat. No it isn't, so the same principle applies to QB'S. On the play in question that Vick was injured on he was in the pocket not scrambling outside of the box, so therefore a flag should have been thrown. The fair haired golden boy Brady has had rules made in his honor to protect him. Remember the tuck rule and  the rule that you can't go at a QB's legs because of Brady. If Vick is guilty of anything it is not understanding his place in the hierarchy of the NFL. Boy didn't we just let your black ass back in after what you did to those dogs. You should be more appreciative of the oppportunity that you have been given again based off of your transgressions. That is not how all people think, but I guarantee you there are some that still see Vick as a premadonnaSuggs tackled him around his legs. Legal play wrong. Brady looked at the officials held his arms up as if to say DO YOU KNOW WHO THE FUCK I AM and the ref threw the flag. Never seen anything like that before in my life. Now you see where Vick is coming from.
  • STOCK UP STOCK DOWN:
  • ^ Darren McFadden  At 393 yds he leads the NFL in rushing and his 171 yd performance made Rex Ryan one pissed off coach.
  • ^ DeMarcus Ware 5 sacks already. You are looking at the Defensive player of the year.
  • ^ Tom Brady 70% comp pct and he is on pace to throw for 7,000 yards.
  • ^ Wes Welker  He is on pace for a 2000 yard season.
  • ^ Aaron Rodgers 120 QB RATING with 8tds and 1int
  • - Donovan McNabb 159 yds a game and 5.9 yds per completion with these rules in place is pathetic
  • - Matt Cassel 65 QB rating. Someone misses Charlie Weis more than his wife does.
  • - Phil Costa You don't see that many bad snaps in a pee wee league game let alone MNF.
  • - Philly OL Kolb was hurt the first game of the season last year and this is the 4th time Vick has been hurt in 2 years. You do the math.
  • - ATL At 1-2 don't believe the hype. Matty Ice yeah fucking right.
  • - Colt's front office Somebody has to except blame for that shit going on in Indy right now.
  • WHAT I LEARNED IN WEEK 3:
  • The Jets better find a running game fast or Revis going to have a lot of company on his island come playoff time.
  • The Bills are for real and that offense is potent.
  • Until the Bears improve that line OL it doesn't matter how well Jay Cutler plays they are never going to be elite.
  • The Giants are built for the playoffs with that defensive line and that running game.
  • Even though it's early the Lions are playing like they believe they belong.
  • This is not your mamma's Raiders. I don't see a lot of dumb ass penalties and they seemed to be very well coached.
  • The Bucs are picking up where they left off last year and all they need to do is get some skilled position players to compliment THE BLACK BIG BEN.
  • The Chargers under Norv are what they are a talented but underachieving bunch.
  • Flacco is all that stands in the way of the Ravens representing the AFC in the Super Bowl.
  • The Titans are going to be a tough out once Johnson gets his legs going.
  • The Saints, Packers, and Texans are built for Cuban Linx I mean shootouts.
  • If the Vikings keep playing McNabb they may well win the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.
  • Critics don't know shit because Cam Newton is making it look easy in Carolina with the records he is setting.
  • BUFFOON OF THE WEEK:
  • When you get challenged by a 80 year old man to a fight that alone makes you a buffoon, but it goes deeper than that. When Mayweather went out of his way to launch a furious tirade at Larry Merchant some people thought he was justified, some laughed, some were shocked and others just dismissed it as Floyd being Floyd, but not your boy Igromo. See I know the real reason Floyd went off on that senior citizen, it's because he wanted to duck the one question he fears the most. When are you going to fight Pacquiao and stop running like a bitch. A fight that was signed sealed and delivered until Floyd said I need Pacquiao to do something that no one in boxing has ever had to do and that's get blood tested for roids. See Floyd is scared that he is going to get beat and he is using steroids as an excuse to duck Pacquiao. If your scared just say so, but stop sucker punching motherfuckers and getting bitched down by 80 year olds. Give the people what they want and fight Pacquiao, before you both turn 40. Because of your fear of an ass whipping and the fact that Moses I mean Merchant challenged you. MAYWEATHER YOU ARE MY BUFFOON OF THE WEEK. Can you see Cosell challenging ALI or Merchant calling out Tyson hell no.
  • I'm out like DeAngelo Hall and those Deadskins.

The Only Top 10 QB List That Matters

What is the criteria for determining who is the best QB in the NFL? Is it QB rating,Superbowl victories, Win/Losses,4th quarter comebacks, leadership qualities, intangibles who knows. Well I do. It is a combination of all those things combined with who you play with, who your head coach is, and how well you play under pressure in big games with everything on the line. A very simple method is the eyeball test which seldomly if ever fails. If it was left up to the media they would tell you that Peyton Manning is Jesus in cleats with his ability to walk on water, raise the dead, heal the sick and feed the masses with just two loafs of bread, a piece of fish and a bottle of water. I am here to tell you that not only is he not the best right now he is not even top 4. Here is how I would rank the top 10 signal callers in the game today and a little later I will rank the top 10 QB'S of all time.
  •  10. MATT SCHAUB- All this man has done is throw for 9,140 yards and 53 touchdowns the last two years and not even qualify for the playoffs. It is not his fault that the Texans play prevent defense for 60 minutes and give up points faster than the Orioles eliminate themselves from playoff consideration. Surround him with better talent and the skies the limit.
  • 9. TONY ROMO-  You know I want to rank him higher, but his lack of playoff success prevents me from doing so. He is the 4th highest rated QB of all time and he has had the misfortune of playing for one of the biggest buffoons ever in Wade Phillips. Give him Omar Epps (TOMLIN) or Bellicheck and he probably would be wearing a different type of ring on that hand of his.
  • 8.ELI MANNING- He has as many rings as Peyton with less fanfare. To me he is one of the most underrated players in the league. His Superbowl winning drive is the stuff that legends are made of and yet we overlook it like everyone does when talking about how Kobe was really Shaq's equal when they were winning rings.
  • 7. MICHAEL VICK- Vick is the human version of the video game Super Tecmo Bowl where you could drop back 20 yards and throw an 80 yard bomb and hit the receiver in stride. His skill set is unique and has to be accounted for on every play. I believe that injuries and his penchant for still wanting to prove himself on every play are the only things that can prevent him from fulfilling his destiny.
  • 6. PHILIP RIVERS- The best compliment that I can give Rivers is that you are never really out of a game with him as QB. He has a go for the throat mentality and he is the ultimate competitor. His leadership, intensity, and warrior like attitude are qualities that inspire a team to play above themselves.
  • 5. PEYTON MANNING- The other Manning. 4 MVP AWARDS, 11 PRO BOWL selections, 5 1st Team All pro selections, Pro Bowl MVP, Super Bowl MVP. Manning has done it all. The only knock that I have on him is his 9-10 record in the playoffs and the fact that he threw 3 TDS and 7 INTS with a QB rating of 70 in the playoffs the year the Colts won it all. A couple of more rings and he would possibly be the greatest of all time.
  • 4. B.ROTHLISBERGER- A 10-3 postseason record and 2 wins in 3 Superbowl appearances make up for what Big Ben may lack in stats. He is not your prototypical pocket passer, but when the game is on the line who delivers more big plays than Ben. He would have made an excellent Raider, because all he does is win baby.
  • 3. DREW BREES- He is the Steve Nash of the NFL. In the playoffs his play rises to the next level when his QB RATING IMPROVES 12 POINTS to a 103.7 and he has 13TDS and only 2 INTS. Since coming to the Saints he has thrown for 4418 YDS,4423 YDS, 5069 YDS, 4388 YDS, and 4620 YDS. Simply incredible. A true field general he passes the eyeball test with true colors, because I don't like seeing him across the field when the Cowboys play because I know he can make every throw. Enough said.
  • 2. AARON RODGERS- Winning a Superbowl is an incredible accomplishment in its own right, but to do it from a wild card position is phenomenal. When it is all said and done he could be wearing more jewelry and possibly have a better career than his predecessor and that says it all.
  • 1. TOM BRADY- You know his accomplishments, so I will say this one thing. Bellicheck never had any success in the NFL until Brady became his QB and has their ever been any player in the history of the game that has done more with less. Modern day Montanna. In the famous words of Ric Flair WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR DON'T LIKE IT LEARN TO LOVE IT BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST THING GOING TODAY!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOO
  • I'M OUT LIKE THE U AND THEIR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HOPES.
